PAW-fect Pawtraits! Hearts for Homes: Drawing Love, Finding FamilyDue Date: 4/2/2026: - ONLY 5 entries per teacher/per school
Previous Year Exhibit

Note: This year, do not include the title or written text within the artwork image. Teachers are encouraged to guide students toward communicating their ideas visually and to refrain from adding text directly onto the artwork.
As early as 45,000 years ago with cave art and depictions of ancient animal species, animals have always served as not only cultural resources but have been the subjects of folkloric and religious narratives. Ancient Egyptians and Africa memorialized cats as did the Romans with their dogs, along with the ancient Chinese and Japanese cultures. They have been integrated into symbology, emblems, totems and have been used to create lessons through stories. Some modern artists like George Rodrigue of the Blue Dog paintings fame, Cassius “Kash” Marcellus Coolidge of the Dogs Playing Card Games, Norman Rockwell and his famous “Boy and Girl Gazing at Moon (Puppy Love) and Saturday Night Post fame, and Andy Warhol and his pop art depictions, are just a few of the many artists whose subject matter has included cats and dogs, imbuing them at times with human attributes. This exhibition encourages students to explore cats and dogs as their subject matter while considering shelter adoptions and these pets’ importance to humans in their everyday life. This 2D exhibition encourages students to move beyond traditional portrait concepts and explore bold, inventive approaches to creating original artwork.

- THIS IS A YEAR LONG EXHIBITION. STUDENT WORK WILL BE RETURNED IN THE SPRNG OF 2026.

Nicklaus Children's Hospital: Fantasy Characters, What’s Your Power?
Date Closed: 4/2/2026 11:59 PM (- ONLY 3 entries per teacher/per school.)

Note: As a reminder, submitted artwork must reflect original student ideas and imagery. Artwork that copies or closely resembles published images, internet sources, or trademarked characters (fan art) is not eligible and will be disqualified. Please encourage students to design unique fantasy characters inspired by the theme rather than existing characters.
Fantasy Characters have always included those of the Hero/Heroine, Mentor, Friendly Creatures, Evil Creatures, and Villains. Stories through the ages have provided us with both heroines and heroes with faithful sidekicks like Sancho Panza, Sir Kay from the Legends of King Arthur, and Lone Ranger’s companion Tonto. Mentors like Gandalf, and Glinda the Good Witch, along with friendly creatures such as Buckbeak, and Where the Wild Things Are,  and villainous characters and creatures like Lord Voldemort, Wicked Witch of the West, The Kraken, Fire breathing dragons, have captured the imagination. All are endowed with special powers of one sort or another. This 2D and 3D exhibition invites K–12 students to delve into the world of fantasy characters, discover their own unique powers, and create artwork that answers the question: What's Your Power?"
